Northumberland County Council's further education and skills provider
EducAitor is now part of the Quality Improvement Plan at Northumberland Skills.
The challenge
Northumberland Skills is Northumberland County Council's further education and skills provider, rated Good by Ofsted. It delivers study programmes for 16 to 19 year olds, adult learning (including ESOL, English and maths), apprenticeships, provision for learners with high needs and supported internships, and employability programmes, across nine campuses in Northumberland.
Many of its tutors come into teaching from industry, with deep subject knowledge but no formal teacher training. Leaders needed to support them consistently without adding to everyone's workload.
What happened
EducAitor® staff led induction and onboarding. Tutors now get regular developmental feedback on their sessions, and leaders use the overview to target support where it's needed most.
EducAitor is now part of the organisation's Quality Improvement Plan, and there is interest in extending it to schools across Northumberland.
